A 32-year-old man from Gatineau is dead after his motorcycle slammed into a guardrail in Gatineau Park on Monday night.
RCMP said the collision occurred at around 8:30 p.m. near Champlain Lookout, off Promenade Champlain.
Before losing control of his bike, the man was attempting a “passing manoeuvre,” RCMP said. The police believe speed was a factor in the collision.
Paramedics rushed the man to hospital and he was in critical condition upon arrival.
However, he died from his injuries early Tuesday morning, RCMP said.
Police did not release the man’s name as they were still notifying next of kin.
Meanwhile, on the Ottawa side of the river last night, first responders had their own serious motorcycle collision to contend with.
Paramedics responded to a single-vehicle collision near the intersection of Merivale Road and Kirkwood Avenue at about 9:30 p.m.
The motorcyclist lost control of his bike and was “ejected approximately 40 feet,” Ottawa paramedics said.
The 29-year-old was not wearing a helmet and sustained a serious head injury.
Upon arrival at hospital he was listed in deteriorating condition.
