Hundreds of deal-seeking brides-to-be lined up Thursday to take advantage of the McCaffrey Haute Couture’s liquidation sale.
More than 250 wedding dresses were up for grabs at 1523 Laperriere Ave., where dozens of women lined up for a chance to try on the racks of white and ivory designer gowns on sale at bargain-basement prices.
Valerie Bruneau of Ginsberg Gingras, the company overlooking the bankruptcy, said the gown prices range from $100 to $1,000. Normally, the dresses go for between $1,200 and $6,000.
Andrea Smerek, 27, was waiting in line with her mom. She had been to a few bridal boutiques to try on dresses and was keeping an open mind about finding “the one” given the frenetic atmosphere.
“It wasn’t in the budget at all,” said Smerek. “Before I was going to be spending less than $1,500 so if I can get a dress (originally selling) for $6,000 for $6oo, that is pretty cool.”
The high-end fashion boutique, specializing in custom-made wedding dresses and gowns, filed for bankruptcy last month. In attempt to recover some of the $400,000 owed, dresses, accessories and sewing equipment were sold for a fraction of their replacement cost.
Wedding dresses, evening gowns, veils and shoes are being sold at the 1523 Laperriere location, while fabric and sewing equipment was being liquidated at 915 Churchill Ave. S. The sale will continue until Sunday if stock remains.
