Former PMO legal advisor Ben Perrin will be back in the witness box when the criminal trial of suspended Senator Mike Duffy resumes on Friday.
On Thursday, Perrin told the court that Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s current chief of staff, Ray Novak, was aware that Nigel Wright planned to personally pick up Duffy’s $90,000 tab for housing and living expenses. The claim seemed at odds with Wright’s own testimony earlier in the trial, when he said that he couldn’t recall Novak being at the meeting where the conversation over the source of the funds allegedly took place.
Crown attorney Jason Neubauer is expected to wrap up preliminary questioning of Perrin later this morning, at which point Duffy’s lead defence lawyer, Donald Bayne, will begin his cross-examination, which is expected to continue throughout the day, and carry on next week.
Court proceedings get underway at 10 a.m. ET, and Kady O’Malley will have full coverage.
NOTE: Due to courthouse-wide connectivity issues, updates may be delayed.
