An all-candidates debate for the Pontiac riding will be held on Monday, Sept. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at the Wakefield Community Centre, 38 Valley Dr.

The public is welcome to bring questions.

Conservative candidate Benjamin Woodman opened his Shawville office Thursday. In a statement he highlighted his concern with the region’s economic development, and called it “a priority.”

“The Conservative Party is committed to keeping our federal taxes low and putting in place the measures we need here in the Pontiac, to grow our economy, to create jobs and to help ensure our families and youth can prosper right here in our communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Liberal candidate Will Amos officially opened his central campaign at 174 Boul. d’Europe in Gatineau on Tuesday.

In his remarks to supporters, he appealed to elected officials and community groups to work together to create new economic opportunities.

After 10 years of what he calls “passive NDP representation” in the Pontiac riding, he says, if elected, he will be a champion for Pontiac to ensure the region gets their fair share of the proposed $150 billion Liberal infrastructure program.

“With unemployment at over 11 per cent, Pontiac needs jobs,” said Amos. “The Liberal Party of Canada has an ambitious infrastructure investment plan for our communities. This is desperately needed in rural Pontiac, whose western and northern regions have been in economic decline for years.”
