University students waiting for a rental home in the Glebe to be move-in ready were left disappointed once again after the property manager’s promise that the home would be ready Friday fell flat.
As previously reported, students were initially promised that the twin townhouses owned by Takyan Consulting & Development, at Bank Street and Fourth Avenue, would be ready for move-in last Tuesday.
But according to Takyan’s Rakan Abushaar, contractors had not finished their work and the students would be able to move in “Friday, at the maximum.”
Not so fast.
“It was meant to be ready to move in today,” said exchange student Niamh Hester on Friday, “but it wasn’t.”
As the day wore on, fourth-year Carleton University student Daniel Chivu grew more and more frustrated at the lack of communication. He drove by the house shortly before 7 p.m. and found that the house was still not ready.
“I was promised an email or phone call at around 2 p.m. today but never received it, and was advised to book movers for tonight,” said Chivu. “Luckily my skepticism kept me from booking anyone, because it would have been a repeat of Tuesday.”
Chivu suspected it would take “another day at least,” but said his biggest concern lay with the plans he had to make for accommodation while waiting for work on the house to be completed.
“The lack of communication and professionalism once again is making me question whether the promises made with regards to reimbursement for our accommodations will be kept,” he said. “We were promised an email confirming the reimbursement, but have yet to receive that.”
Abushaar and Takyan Consulting & Development could not be reached for comment Friday night.
