A Good Samaritan who was spending Labour Day Monday sailing with his family helped a sailor of a capsized boat only to require a water rescue himself when the battery on his boat died.
Ottawa Fire Services had already been called out to the area near the Nepean Sailing Club for a report of a small sailboat that had capsized Monday afternoon.
A fellow seaman saw the capsized boat and helped a struggling sailor to get that little boat righted. Trouble was, the man returned to find that the battery on his 18-foot boat had died mid-heroics, stranding himself and his family.
The sailor called 911 and gave dispatch his GPS coordinates. Crews found the stranded family and towed the boat back to the Nepean Sailing Club.
All in a day on the high seas.
