Ottawa police are on the hunt for three suspects after two taxi drivers were defrauded by passengers.

On separate occasions, police said Wednesday, the suspects asked to borrow more than $1,000 from the drivers and promised to return the money with compensation.

Police said the passengers left jewelry as collateral and disappeared into a multi-unit building with the money. The suspects never returned and the collateral turned out to be worthless.

Police described the first suspect as a balding black man, between 35 and 40 years old, with a thin build. The second suspect was described as a black man between 25 and 35 with a large build, dark hair, a chin strap beard and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. The third suspect as a white woman, 40 to 50 years old, with a heavy build, long dirty blond or brown hair and wearing glasses.

Anyone with information can call police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5677 or 5678.
