Firefighters are battling a large fire in the basement of a house in Greely, which residents were able escape Sunday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services said the family notified emergency services to the blaze in the basement of a single family residence at 8292 Forest Green Cres. at about 8:55 a.m. and were able to get safely out of the house before trucks arrived.
The fire has been assessed as a working fire and residents are asked to avoid the area, near the Metcalfe Golf Club, throughout Sunday morning. Roads were not officially closed at 9:30 a.m.
No injuries were immediately reported.
