Gatineau firefighters responded to an early morning fire at 32 Rue des Migrateurs, in the Birch Manor area, around 12:10 a.m. Sunday.
When crews arrived they found a garage fire had spread into the attached two-storey home. A total of two people had to be evacuated from the premises. A cat, two dogs and a pet bird perished in the blaze.
It took a total of 10 pumper trucks and 28 firefighters to battle the fire.
It’s estimated that damages caused by the blaze will top $200,000. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
