Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin said Tuesday the new Liberal government is “good news for cities” and welcomed four new Liberal MPs who swept away four NDP incumbents in ridings covering the Quebec’s fourth-largest city.

“I’m pleased that municipalities can count on a prime minister who has promised to work as a partner with (organizations) that engage with citizens daily,” Pedneaud-Jobin said in a release.

The mayor also congratulated rookie MPs who swept to victory: Greg Fergus in Hull-Aylmer, Will Amos in Pontiac, Steve MacKinnon in Gatineau and Stéphane Lauzon in Argenteuil-La Petite Nation.

Lauzon, a former Gatineau city councillor, in particular, will bring “a touch of municipal (experience) to the new federal government,” Pedneaud-Jobin said.

The mayor said his experience with the candidates during the election leads him to expect good cooperation between the government and the city.
