Fire crews kept busy battling pair of blazes early Friday morning

Ottawa fire crews were busy Friday morning battling a pair of blazes, one in Overbrook and the other in Hintonburg.

At 5:16 a.m., Ottawa fire received multiple calls reporting that a house still under construction had caught fire.

Flames jumped from the Overbrook residence at 228 Glyne Avenue to the homes adjacent to it on either side.

Crews managed to douse the multi-home fire before 7 a.m. There were no reported injuries, however, a mother and two young children were displaced, Ottawa fire said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately known.

Meanwhile at just before 5:20 a.m., a 911 caller reported seeing flames coming from the porch of a home at 129 Smirle Avenue, roughly 10 kilometres from the scene of the Overbrook fire.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the porch fully aflame.

Firefighters made quick work of the blaze, but not before it caused roughly $200,000 in damage. While there were no injuries, Ottawa fire said victims services was needed for one person

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
