Hydro Ottawa was warning drivers to avoid Riverside Drive near The Ottawa Hospital’s Riverside Campus on Monday evening because of a downed power line.
Describing the situation as “dangerous,” the utility urged drivers to stay at least 10 metres from the downed line.
Ottawa police announced that Riverside was closed between Smyth and Industrial roads.
OC Transpo said the transitway was also closed between Billings Bridge and Hurdman Stations and buses were being diverted.
Hydro Ottawa said about 1,400 customers were left without power in the Rideau-Vanier area straddling the Queensway around Lees Avenue and Old Ottawa East.
Power, which went out about 8:15 p.m., was not expected to be restored until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, the utility said.
It was not immediately known how or why the power line fell.
