OPP have charged a 33-year-old man in a hit-and-run after a police cruiser and an officer were struck by a vehicle during an arrest.
When police stopped a vehicle on Terry Fox Drive on Wednesday around 12:45 a.m., they believed the driver had been drinking. While trying to arrest the driver, he put his vehicle into reverse, crashed into the cruiser and struck the officer, police said.
The officer, who was uninjured, gave chase as the driver fled and headed onto Highway 417 but was unable to stop the vehicle. At 6:41 a.m., a vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch on Highway 417 near Richardson Side Road.
Police said Thursday that a man had surrendered to police later Wednesday.
Jason MacDonald, 33, of Arnprior was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
flight from police, impaired driving, assault a peace officer with a weapon and resisting a peace officer.
