The first wintry blast of the season was expected to hit areas west of the national capital region on Saturday.
Late Friday, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement telling residents of the Algonquin, Renfrew and Hastings Highlands regions to prepare for snowfalls ranging from five to 15 centimetres beginning Saturday morning and continuing until Sunday morning.
Elsewhere in the province, snowfall warnings were issued for areas northeast of Georgian Bay and in the Grey-Bruce regions.
Temperatures, however, were expected to remain relatively mild.
The weather — not unexpected at this time of year — was blamed on a low pressure system that has dumped snow throughout the U.S. Midwest as it moves north and east.
No significant precipitation had been forecast for the Ottawa area by midnight Friday night.
