At least two shots were fired at a vehicle before it sped away at Shillington Avenue and Merivale Road early Saturday morning, Ottawa police said.

Police responded to a call at 6 a.m. on Saturday after a report of shots being heard. Upon investigation, the Guns and Gangs Unit determined at least two shots were fired, including one shot into a vehicle that had stopped on Shillington Avenue before speeding away. Police were unable to confirm where the other shot landed.

Several people leaving The Suya Spot, an African barbecue restaurant near the shooting, were “unwilling to provide any assistance” in relation to the reported shots, police said. It is not known if there were any injuries.

This is the city’s 39th reported shooting of the year.

The Guns and Gangs Unit is asking any witnesses to this shooting or anyone with information to contact the Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5050. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
