Two teenagers have been charged with attempted robbery and administering a “noxious substance” after six people were hit with bear spray on an OC Transpo bus near Montreal Road Monday afternoon.

Police say a young man and woman, both 17, approached a bus passenger and demanded an item in the man’s possession.

When the victim refused to hand over the item, which police did not identify, the male attacker grabbed a can of bear spray from the female and discharged the noxious spray inside the bus.

The attackers then grabbed the item and fled. Police said the victim knew the attackers.

The victim and five other passengers sitting nearby were all hit by the powerful spray and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Both of the attackers were arrested a short while later and face a number of charges including robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The male attacker is facing charges that include assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Both suspects also face breach of probation charges.

They were to appear in court Tuesday. Their identities were not released because they are minors.
