Emergency crews responded to an accident on Highway 417 around 12:30 p.m. after receiving calls that a man had been struck by a vehicle while walking on the highway.
According to paramedics, the 51-year-old man was walking in the eastbound lanes near the Carling Avenue exit when he was struck.
The man suffered severe shoulder, chest and leg injuries. He was stabilized by paramedics on the scene and transported to hospital in serious condition.
There was no immediate information on why the man was on foot on the busy highway.
