An anonymous complaint has prompted the University of Ottawa to investigate the “misconduct” of a student-run club.

Senior university administrators received an “anonymous report of misconduct involving a student-run club” on Nov. 11, according to a press statement issued late Tuesday afternoon. They emphasized the club is “independent of the university’s sports services.”

However, university officials would not describe the alleged misconduct, explain the nature of the complaint, or even name the club.

“That’s all we can say at this point,” said Néomie Duval, the university’s media relations manager. “That’s the marching orders I have received.”

According to the four paragraph press release, the alleged misconduct happened eight months earlier, in February. Police were contacted at the time but did not lay any charges.

Nevertheless, relying on the anonymous report, university officials made their own inquiries, determined more investigation was needed and hired an “independent investigator” to look into the matter, review the facts, and help the university decide whether more action is necessary.

In the meantime, university officials say they won’t comment further on the matter.
