The 47-year-old roofer who survived a fall from a three storey building on Innes Road Tuesday afternoon has died as a result of his injuries, according to the Ministry of Labour.
Ottawa paramedics were called to a construction site at 2540 Innes Rd. at around 3 p.m. Tuesday on reports that the worker was showing no vital signs after the fall.
Paramedics found the man on the ground in front of the building and confirmed that he did not have vital signs.
Emergency crews immediately began extensive treatments to restore the man’s heartbeat. Firefighters assisted paramedics with CPR, while paramedics coordinated spinal immobilization and dealt with extricating the man from the scene.
The man continued to receive aggressive procedures from paramedics on route to the Ottawa Hospital trauma unit where he was admitted in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
He was later pronounced dead.
An official from the Ontario’s Ministry of Labour was at the scene of the man’s fall Wednesday and is investigating the death. Ottawa police were involved in the investigation, but have ended their involvement.
