The provincial ministry of labour is investigating a workplace accident Thursday in which a worker in his 30s seriously hurt after he was struck by the bucket of a backhoe and pinned to the side of a metre-deep ditch.
Paramedics were called to the construction site on Main Street near Hazel Street shortly before 11 a.m.
The victim was conscious when responders arrived and they were able to free him.
He was listed in stable condition upon arrival at hospital.
It was the second serious construction accident to be investigated by the ministry this week.
On Wednesday, a 47-year-old roofer was pronounced dead of injuries he sustained a day earlier after falling from a three-storey building at 2540 Innes Rd.
The worker showed no vital signs when paramedics arrived, but after extensive onsite treatments he was transported to hospital where he was admitted in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
