Ottawa paramedics credited the “excellent” work of quick-thinking bystanders who used a tractor Saturday afternoon to free a 23-year-old man whose arms had been trapped between the tire and wheelwell of his 1.5-ton pickup truck.

Paramedics said the victim was working on his vehicle near Moodie Drive and Fallowfield Road at about 12:30 p.m. when the jack stands failed, trapping his arms for about 20 minutes.

Bystanders located a tractor nearby and used it to lift the man’s truck, freeing his arms.

He was treated for crush injuries to both arms but paramedics reported he had “full sensation and movement … with no deficits noted.”

He was taken to hospital and judged to be in stable condition on arrival.

“The bystanders involved in this call did an excellent job to work at freeing this man, minimizing the amount of trauma he sustained,” Ottawa paramedics noted in a release.
