An illumination ceremony on Parliament Hill attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family on Wednesday night kicked off the 31st edition of Christmas Lights Across Canada.
The many who gathered for the annual start of the Christmas display enjoyed free BeaverTails pastries and hot chocolate, a live performance by Measha Brueggergosman and the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir, and an pyrotechnic show.
The Peace Tower and Centre Block on Parliament Hill will also be the backdrop for a new winter lightscapes multimedia projection show presented in loop from 5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every evening during the Christmas Lights period.
