The Salvation Army wants Ottawa residents to know it does not canvas door-to-door for donations during the holiday season.
The organization said a man was seen in the Glebe last week going door-to-door trying to collect funds while using the Salvation Army’s logo, claiming he was a representative of the charity and talking about “a parade” that would take place on Bank Street.
The charity, which collects charitable donations during the holiday season through the ubiquitous “Red Kettles” that are scattered throughout the city, is using the incident as a reminder for residents to be wary about potential fraud at this time of year.
The Salvation Army does not canvas door-to-door and asks anyone who may be approached by a person claiming to be with the charity to call Ottawa police at 613-230-6211.
