A 27-year-old man who police allege held up five Ottawa banks in a week is facing charges of robbery and wearing a disguise after being arrested by Toronto police.
Between Nov. 19 and Nov. 26, 2015, Ottawa police said a man wearing sunglasses and toques or hats approached tellers at five banks and handed over a note demanding money.
In each robbery, the suspect indicated he had a handgun, although none was ever seen.
Following each robbery, the suspect fled with cash. No one was injured in the robberies, which occurred at bank branches on Rideau Street, Preston Street, Montreal Road, Carling Avenue and Bank Street.
On Wednesday, Toronto police arrested 27-year-old Gregory Targett for an unrelated incident in their jurisdiction. He has since been charged with five counts each of robbery and wearing a disguise.
Targett is next expected to appear in court in Toronto on Dec. 17.
