One person was injured in what fire officials are describing as a two-alarm fire in a home near Hunt Club Road early Sunday morning, while Gatineau police were busy investigating a suspicious blaze.

Multiple callers alerted officials to a fire at 3555 Downpatrick Rd., near Hunt Club and Uplands roads, at about 6:27 a.m. Fire officials found flames shooting from the roof and back of the row unit home when they arrived at the scene.

Four adults residents, described as a family by fire officials, were not allowed back into the home due to its condition and were given assistance from Victim Services.

One of the family members was taken to hospital suffering from injuries due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze and estimated damage were not yet determined.

Also early Sunday, Gatineau fire fighters and police were called just after 6 a.m. to 215 Main St. to fight a fire in a shed on the property of an abandoned apartment building.

The fire spread to a nearby large, apartment-size garbage can, but was contained and did not spread to the building.

Police are treating that fire as suspicious and are investigating.
