Ottawa police say a suspect has been apprehended following a string of drugstore robberies in October.
Joseph Arial, 39, was arrested Thursday by Gatineau police and returned to Ottawa.
He was to appear in court Friday.
The robberies took place between Oct. 3 and 5 at pharmacies on Montreal Road, Innes Road, Strandherd Drive and Bank Street. In each case, a man entered the drugstore and produced a note demanding money and prescription drugs. In at least two of the cases, a second suspect was observed outside the premises and a vehicle was seen waiting. In two cases, the suspect fled empty-handed. In one instance cash only was obtained. Only once did the attackers receive both drugs and cash from pharmacy workers.
There were no injuries in any of the robberies.
An Ottawa resident, Arial has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, two counts of attempt to commit an indictable offence, two counts of robbery, one count theft of a vehicle and one count of possession of stolen property.
Anyone with information with respect to these robberies, or any other robbery, is asked to contact the Ottawa police robbery unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
