High winds and snow flurries made driving a bit of a white-knuckle affair in some parts of the capital region Saturday.

Conditions caused a number of collisions including a rollover on Highway 416 in the city’s south end near Roger Stevens Drive.

Roger Stevens was closed between Hwy 416 and Second Line Road for more than an hour during the afternoon as first responders dealt with the traffic mess.

Early reports indicated superficial injuries to the occupants of at least one car.

Ottawa police sent an advisory late in the afternoon advising drivers to exercise caution, particularly in the city’s rural western areas.

Near-whiteout conditions were reported in open areas around Carleton Place and Arnprior, although no significant collisions were reported.

The weather office issued a weather statement for Cornwall and Lancaster areas, cautioning that flurries and high winds would cause low visibility. However, no major accumulation was expected.
