You don’t need to plan too far ahead to enjoy Winterlude starting late next month, but some of the more participatory events require some additional planning. The city of Ottawa is calling for registrations for four special events to be held at Lansdowne Park during Winterlude:
• Snowshoe Ultimate Tourament: It’s like ultimate frisbee in showshoes. The inaugural tourament will be held on the Great Lawn on Feb. 14 with the help of the Ottawa-Carleton Ultimate Association and the outdoor racing group Mad Trapper. The tournament will pit 24 teams of five people against each other in search of the top local snowshoe team.
• Snowshoe running: The Mad Trapper and Run Ottawa are offering four separate training sessions. Learn how to walk, run, cross-train and play Ultimate on snowshoes.
• Blizzard Bowl: Play touch football in the snow at the annual Blizzard Bowl, held this year in the Great Lawn on Feb. 6 and organized by the Bytown Touch Football League. Up to 24 teams will be selected.
• City Snowscapes: If snow is your medium, plan to get together a team and show off your best work on Lansdowne’s Aberdeen Square. Up to 10 snow sculpture teams teams will be selected based on creativity, technique and visual appeal. Register by Jan. 22.
Winterlude runs from Jan. 29 to Feb. 15. To register for these events, visit ottawa.ca.
