One man was dead and a second was transferred to hospital without vital signs after a head-on crash Christmas Day on Greenbank Road near Fallowfield Road in the city’s south end.

The collision occurred at about 4 p.m. in the southbound lane of Greenbank when a southbound car collided with a northbound car that had crossed into the southbound lanes.

Ottawa police Sgt. Steve Gorgichuk confirmed the driver of the southbound car was killed and the driver of the northbound car suffered serious injuries. The Ottawa Paramedic Service said the other driver, who was about 30 years of age, was vital-signs absent upon arrival at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.

A 32-year-old female passenger in the southbound car was treated for severe abdominal trauma and back pain, and was transferred to the trauma centre in critical condition, the paramedic service said.

The driver who died was described by paramedics as a man of about 30 years of age.

Police did not release identities of any of the victims.

Greenbank Road between West Hunt Club and Fallowfield was closed for several hours after the accident, but police issued a release at 10:41 p.m. reporting that the road had been re-opened.

This is sad :-( something weird must have happened to that northbound car or driver !

这段路速度快,没隔离带对开,的确危险。不酒驾毒驾,大晚上也容易出事。

The second man has died following a head-on collision in the city’s south end on Christmas Day, Ottawa police have confirmed.

Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Investigators say the collision occurred at 4:16 p.m. in the southbound lane of Greenbank Road north of Fallowfield Road when the two vehicles smashed head-on.

A 30-year-old man driving an SUV in the southbound lane died at the scene, while his 32-year-old female passenger was transported to the trauma centre by Ottawa paramedics with serious non-life threatening abdominal and back injuries.

The 27-year-old male driver of the northbound sedan was transported to hospital by paramedics, who described his condition initially as “vital signs absent.” He later died at hospital, police confirmed.

Greenbank Road between West Hunt Club and Fallowfield was closed for several hours after the accident. It was reopened shortly before 11 p.m.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Anyone with information or who may have witnesses this collision is asked to contact the Ottawa police collision unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 2481 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477(TIPS).

那条路得加隔离带,80x2对撞非常致命。前几年出过类似的事故。

Sad!
Met a crazy driver today, who was on left-turn lane but drove straight through the intersection very fast - luckily there was a new lane opened up after the intersection otherwise...
