Ontario Provincial Police investigators believe a homeless homicide victim found near Guelph may have travelled from the Ottawa area a day before his body was discovered.

Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of a death on Dec. 17 in the town of Erin, about 30 kilometres north of Guelph, where investigators discovered the body of 65-year-old Frederick John Hatch in a wooded area.

The following day an autopsy was conducted in Toronto. The cause of death has not been released, however investigators are treating the death as a homicide investigation.

According the Guelph Mercury online, the location where the body was discovered showed evidence of fire.

Hatch is described as male white approximately 167 cm (5’6”) tall, stocky build, grey downward sloping moustache and grey over the collar length hair; he was wearing a dark coloured hoodie and blue jeans.

Police believe he travelled from Eastern Ontario on Dec. 16 arriving in the Erin area later that day or in the early morning hours of Dec. 17.

A toll free tip line, hoping members of the public may come forward to assist with the investigation; the toll free number is 1-844-677-5010.
