A man was rushed to hospital Monday afternoon with serious head injuries after being struck by a sign post in the Hampton Park Plaza parking lot.
Ottawa paramedics were called to the strip mall about 2:30 p.m. when a driver lost control of her car near the plaza’s LCBO outlet and struck a metal sign post that fell on a passing pedestrian, described as a man in his late 50s or early 60s.
“He suffered very, very serious head injuries,” Paramedic Service spokesman J.P. Trottier said later.
After hitting the sign post the car careered through a storefront window, he said, adding that the driver, while shaken, was not injured.
Police are investigating.
