An inquest into the death of a Smiths Falls woman who died at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre three years ago will begin March 7.
Diane Jeannine Lisle, 62, died Jan. 7, 2013 after she was returned to the Innes Road jail following a court appearance in Smiths Falls.
Because she died in custody, an inquest is mandatory under Ontario’s Coroners Act. The inquest is expected to last three days and hear from 12 witnesses. It will attempt to determine the cause of death and may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.
The inquest will be held at the Smiths Falls Courthouse with Dr. Patricia Bowles presiding.
