A woman escaped serious injuries after falling into the Rideau Canal Wednesday morning after losing her footing while crossing one of the Ottawa Locks alongside the Chateau Laurier.
First responders were called to the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.
Emergency personnel speculate Tuesday’s snowstorm likely helped cushion the woman’s fall.
As of 9 a.m., the Ottawa fire department was still in the process of extricating her.
