An Ottawa man has been arrested in last year’s shooting death of 25-year-old Christine MacNeil at a Gatineau hotel.
Gatineau police announced the 53-year-old’s arrest Wednesday. While not releasing the man’s name, police said he was to be interviewed by investigators Wednesday night.
MacNeil was shot and killed in a room at The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Laurier Street in Gatineau on the evening of Oct. 19. Several other guests reported hearing gunshots around 8 p.m.
On Wednesday, Gatineau police, aided by the Ottawa Police Service’s tactical team, raided three residences in Ottawa’s west end — 115 Mountshannon Dr., across from Mulligan Park, near Fallowfield Road and Woodroffe Avenue; 1285 Woodroffe Ave., between Field Street and Baseline Road; and 1324 Field St. in the Bel-Air Park area off Woodroffe Avenue.
MacNeil was a known sex-trade worker. Police believed she worked from hotels.
She reportedly complained to police that she was victim of human trafficking and, at one point, had been co-operating with police in their investigation of her suspected trafficker.
MacNeil was the one-time girlfriend of Emilio Spezzano, brother of Giovanni “Johnny” Spezzano, a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang. Johnny Spezzano committed suicide in January 2015, dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The website Canada411 lists “V. Spezzano” as the occupant of the Field Street house.
Gatineau police ask that anyone with information that could help their ongoing investigation contact investigators at 819 243-4636, extension 1. The information will be treated confidentially and citizens do not have the obligation to provide their identity.
