The Ottawa police hold-up squad wants your help in identifying these suspects in unsolved robberies at banks, gas stations and convenience stores around the city.
“Most of our cases are identity cases,” said Staff Sgt. Mike Haarbosch, who heads the robbery unit. “Usually we start with some kind of an unknown suspect and the thrust of the investigation is the identity of the suspect.”
Crystal-clear images typically get public responses, but, for whatever reason, IDs for the following have been hard to come by.
“We’re going back to the public at-large to see if we can make some headway in getting an identification on these people,” Haarbosch said.
This bundled-up man is alleged to have robbed a bank on Bank — the 1500-block of Bank Street, to be precise — on Feb. 12, 2015. Police says he walked in, passed a teller a note, produced a fake gun and fled with cash. He is described as a white man, standing approximately six feet tall, between 50 and 60 years old, with a silver beard and moustache.
This man is a suspected Jays fan, but also a suspect in an Earl Grey Drive bank robbery at 8:30 a.m. on May 2, 2015, who fled with cash. Police describe him as a black man, approximately 6 feet tall, in his mid 20s, with slim build and goatee.
This well-prepared robber is alleged to have shown up on Aug. 31, 2015, at a bank on Rideau Street with a bank deposit bag, though police believe he ended up making a withdrawal — from other people’s accounts. He is described as a white man, about 200 pounds, five-foot-nine, between 50 and 60 years of age, with a heavier build.
Police say this armed robber walked into a Trim Road bank on Sept. 3, 2015, after casing the joint, and told everyone it was a stickup, pointed the gun at bank employees, stuffed cash in a plastic bag then fled in a red hatchback with a black roof rack. He is described as a while man, about six feet tall, between 25 and 30 years old, with medium build.
This robber managed to make a cash dash after telling employees at a Richmond Road Bank that he was armed on Oct. 29, 2015. He wasn’t. He is described as white and stocky, approximately five-foot-five, 200 pounds, between 35 and 50 years old.
While wearing a grey hoodie and brandishing a knife, this man robbed a gas station on Beechwood Avenue, police allege. He is described as white, about 25 years old, of average height and medium build with a full dark beard.
A metal-bar-toting man walked into a convenience store on Wellington Street West and tried to rob it. The employee refused and the man struck the employee with the bar then left. He is described as having a light complexion, being about six feet tall and between 30 and 35 years old.
This man isn’t really thought to have put in “100% effort” into his disguise, but police believe he’s responsible for four robberies — two at the same Baseline Road convenience store. The alleged serial robber is believed to have hit a gas station on Strandherd Drive, a gas station on Woodroffe Avenue and a convenience store on Baseline Road all on Dec. 18, 2015. That same Baseline Road convenience store was robbed again Jan. 31 of this year and police believe they’re looking for the same perp. He is described as a six foot tall white man between 35 and 45 years old, with a medium build and short dark hair. He’s got a visible birthmark or scar on his left forearm.
Police believe this ski-masked bandit, wielding a knife, hit both a convenience store on Manotick Main and a gas station on Prince of Wales Drive within the span of 10 minutes on Jan. 17 of this year. He only made away with cash from the gas station. He is described as a white, about 5-10, and between 20 and 25 years old, with a thin build with dirty blonde or light brown hair.
Ottawa officers say this case is under construction, until someone can identify this man wanted in a bank robbery in Old Ottawa South. He is described as a white man, between 30 and 40 years old, tall and heavy set with a clean-shaven face.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Ottawa police robbery unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116 or to submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
