An overnight shooting at a house party in Gatineau has sent one man to hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Gatineau police said the shooting happened around 2:55 a.m. at 34 Cartier St.
Lt. Jean-Francois Beauchamp said police arrived at the house to find a 26-year-old male had been shot in the stomach. There were approximately 25 people inside the house at the time of the shooting, Beauchamp said.
Police immediately set up a perimeter and called in tactical and K-9 officers to search for the male suspect, who had fled on foot, but were unable to locate him.
The victim was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, Beauchamp said. The severity of his injuries was not known.
The reason for the shooting has not yet been established, Beauchamp said.
Cartier Street has been closed while police conduct their investigation.
A command post has been set up at a nearby shopping plaza. Police appeared to be interviewing witnesses on a STO transit bus.
Beauchamp said Cartier Street is expected to remain closed for several hours while police investigate.
