A man was in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a dump truck Tuesday afternoon, while apparently walking on Hwy. 417.

Police and paramedics were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway at the downtown Kent St. off-ramp, where a man in his late 30s had been struck shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries, according to paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier, and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The man was not carrying any identification at the time, and was unconscious when paramedics arrived.

He suffered life-threatening head injuries and multiple fractures, and remained in critical condition Tuesday evening.

The driver of the dump truck was unharmed.

The highway was reduced to two lanes during the investigation.
