Ottawa police were investigating the city’s fourth homicide of the year Wednesday night after a male victim was shot dead on Ritchie Street in the city’s west end.
Police were releasing few details about the shooting.
Insp. Mark Patterson said the major crime unit was investigating a homicide that was reported at 7:38 p.m. and that police had no persons in custody or any suspect.
Investigators from the major crimes unit appeared to be concentrating on a brown, two-storey house on the west side of Ritchie Street, north of Carling Avenue and across from the Brittania Woods housing complex.
Yellow police crime-scene tape and half a dozen police cruisers sealed off the street and adjacent laneways.
The shooting was also the city’s second homicide this week.
On Monday, Mohamed Ali Hassan, 19, was stabbed to death in a park near an elementary school in Overbrook. He had been stabbed about 18 times, police allege.
Michael Leblanc, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder.
