Ottawa police arrested nine men in a daytime “john sweep” in Vanier earlier this week.
Police said the sweep was conducted on Monday and Tuesday in response to numerous complaints from the community about men soliciting sex trade workers on the lunch hour.
“We again will continue to conduct community safety initiatives in residential neighbourhoods as it relates to prostitution,” Staff Sgt. Sam Fawaz of the central division neighbourhood unit said in a statement.
Of the nine arrested, eight qualified and agreed to participate in a “john school” pre-charge diversion program.
Grant Johnston, 51, was charged with drug trafficking, carrying a concealed weapon and prostitution-related offences.
