Ottawa firefighters are continuing to battle a fast-moving fire in a Vars house Friday afternoon.
Firefighters said flames were shooting through the roof and upper windows of the two-storey home on Russland Road after they arrived at the residence following a 911 call reporting smoke at about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
The house is situated at the end of a 550-foot long driveway, and firefighters are having to truck water to the blaze.
Fire crews are now engaging in a defensive attack as heavy smoke streamed from the home’s windows.
Ottawa fire said motorists should expect closings and detours in the area around Devine Road and Russland Road, and are asking drivers to yield to emergency vehicles that are shuttling water to the fire.
