Ottawa police closed a portion of Metcalfe Street near Queen Street Thursday morning for about 40 minutes, citing a “medical emergency” as the reason but offering no further details.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m.

More than a half-dozen police cars sped to the site, and closed the busy intersection to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Among the tenants listed at the site at 33 Metcalfe St. is the RCMP A Division Parliament Hill Detachment station.

A senior police officer was expected to provide further details.
