Ottawa police are investigating a hate crime after vandals spray-painted racial epithets on an Islamic school in the city’s east end.
Police confirmed they received a call early Monday morning as students and staff arrived at the Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School on Baribeau Street in Vanier.
The school’s brick facade was tagged with several phrases — including “Die Bombers” and “ISIS Go Home,” according to reports — painted in large black and orange letters on an exterior wall at the rear of the building.
The Ottawa police hate crime unit was called in to investigate, and the graffiti, believed to have been sprayed overnight Sunday, was deemed a hate crime.
