Ottawa police laid charges Thursday against a 17-year-old male following an overnight attempted robbery outside the Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre.
While walking to her car in the mall’s parking lot around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a woman in her 70s was approached by a lone male suspect. According to police, the suspect was armed with a knife and demanded the woman hand over her car keys.
The woman refused and walked away, police said. The suspect then also walked away, but was stopped by patrol officers that were responding to the incident.
There were no injuries.
Police have laid three charges against the 17 year old from Ottawa, including robbery and possession of a weapon.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in youth court Thursday.
