The Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Senators Foundation will host an event to honour former Senators General Manager Bryan Murray and raise money for cancer research in the process.

The event, called An Evening with Bryan, will take place June 15 at the Canadian Tire Centre where Murray has spent plenty of time over the last decade.

The arena’s ice rink will be converted to host a gala dinner for 500 guests, including hockey fans, players and alumni. A table of 10 people will cost $3,500, with half tables at $2,000 and individual tickets pegged at $350. Tickets can be purchased at AnEveningWithBryan.ca. All proceeds will go to cancer care research at the Ottawa Hospital.

More than 500 people are expected to attend the event.

“I want the room filled with hockey fans and those dedicated to making a difference in the fight against cancer,” Murray said. “After all … we’re in this together.”

Murray was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in 2014. Since his diagnosis, Murray has campaigned for more men to get colonoscopies, something he said he put off for too long.

Just a few days before Murray stepped down as the Senators GM, he was extolling the virtues of complementary, non-traditional cancer treatments such as yoga and mistletoe injections — something he credits with helping him through chemotherapy.
