Thousands pedalled, skated and walked to raise a record-setting $953,466 for cancer care and research for kids Sunday at the CN Cycle for CHEO.

Among the fundraisers were 12-year-old Alex Tourangeau, 13-year-old Léa Enström and five-year-old Bruno Giammaria, who represented all CHEO cancer patients at the CN Cycle for CHEO and were on stage at the Canadian War Museum to hear the grand total.

“Every year, 75 families receive the news from CHEO doctors that one of their children has cancer,” CHEO Foundation president and CEO Kevin Keohane said.

“Today is all about those families and making sure they receive top notch care and have access to world class research.”

A total of 224 teams took part in the Ottawa Citizen Team Challenge.

Topping the corporate teams was the Ericsson Viking Voyageurs with $67,879.00. Team Molly was the top non-corporate team, raising $30,993, and David Logan raised the most of any individual fundraiser with $8,101. Proceeds benefit the CHEO Foundation, Candlelighters and Ronald McDonald House.
