Who knows how the call was sent? A Klieg light image of a bat shone in desperation on the inky clouds above Ottawa’s nighttime skyline, perhaps, or a young wizard’s Accio summoning spell, indicating trouble in the nation’s capital.
However the siren call was issued, it was answered in full force on Friday, as the comic-book repositories of good and evil alike were awakened, emptied and drawn to Bytown, those not blessed with the power of flight riding skeletal horsemen of the Apocalypse, or batmobiles, and each bearing light sabres, vibranium shields, Bracelets of Submission (Ooh… yes, please) and such.
Once in O-town, these oft-caped superheroes and villains mustered their allies among the city’s populace, men and women who retrieved from their closets and tickle trunks their Deadpool masks, utility belts and dollar-store phasers, to head to the EY Centre for a three-day apocalyptic smackdown love-fest known as Comiccon.
But first, a sidetrip to the metropolis’s seat of power, where Gotham’s biggest geek resides: City hall.

What question do fans ask the most?
One that a lot of people ask is “When you and Rocky are in the ring and they freeze frame, who actually won that? ” That question is ubiquitous.
And how do you respond?
I say “I can’t tell you. If I tell you, I have to kill you.”
People always want to know who would win in a fight between A and B. There have been some interesting dichotomy in your career. Let’s look at some of those… The Oakland Raiders versus the BC Lions?
They were both great experiences. My first foray into Canada was with the BC Lions. It was with them that I first visited Ottawa.
Who won?
I don’t remember.
Did you have a better time at one or the other?
No, not particularly. I was always focussed on the moment and I had great times at each, or terrible times that each, depending on what my body was feeling at the time.
You appeared in episodes of Good Times and Kung Fu. Who wins in a fight between David Caradine and JJ Walker?
That’s a funny question. If Carradine could stop laughing, maybe him. But Jimmy Walker would have him in stitches. He get them laughing and then knock him out.
Jesse Ventura versus Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Oh my God, the duelling governors. That’s a tie. Neither one would let the other get the best of him.
On Saturday night live, you joked that as the “black guy in Predator,” you were going to run for office. Which leads me to Trump versus Clinton.
That’s not even a contest. Oh God, I’m going to dig a hole for myself here. I don’t want to even address it. Yuck. That’s my feeling. On one side at least.
Which side?
No further comment. I’ve seen some ugly things. I’m ultimately going to vote for the people that are platforming things I believe in. I believe in equality and justice for ALL, not just some.
I think I have an idea.
