After four days of selection, a jury was chosen on Thursday for the first-degree murder trial of a man and a female neighbour charged with killing his wife on their wedding anniversary.

Bhupinderpal Gill and Gurpreet Ronald, who were both charged with first-degree in the Jan. 29, 2014, of 43-year-old Jagtar Gill, have pleaded not-guilty.

Potential jurors entered the courtroom one at a time Thursday to answer questions from the defence or to be asked to be excused for various reasons.

Jagtar Gill was discovered dead in her family home in Barrhaven when her daughter and husband returned home with flowers and cake for the couple’s wedding anniversary.

Ottawa police initially thought the death was random and said that the victim’s husband had an alibi.

The police theory soon changed and Gill and Ronald were charged with first-degree murder.

Their joint trial is expected to begin on Friday.
