Bad things happen to drivers who pass a police car at high speed on a Friday night. While weaving back and forth on the road. And while smoke is pouring out of the car.
Having illegal drugs on board doesn’t help either. Also, Quebec really insists that drivers have car insurance and a driver’s licence these days.
Things started to go bad for the 25-year-old Gatineau man about 9:40 p.m. Friday, when Gatineau police noticed him driving very fast in the southbound lanes of Gréber Boulevard near the Lady Aberdeen Bridge.
The officers noticed the car was swaying back and forth, and leaving a trail of heavy smoke.
They caught up with the car on Fournier Boulevard, which wasn’t too difficult because by this time it was stopped the engine was on fire.
The driver flamed out on the legal side of things, as well as burning up his car.
First, he was there in breach of an undertaking he had given earlier while facing criminal charges.
He also didn’t have a valid driver’s licence because it was suspended following previous traffic offences. And the car didn’t have insurance.
Police seized the charred remains of the car for 30 days, and also seized some GHB and methamphetamine. A woman who was a passenger was charged with possession of the drugs.
