Vehicles and trailers at a commercial facility on Leitrim Road caught fire Friday afternoon, sending smoke into the air that firefighters could see from a distance.
Danielle Cardinal, a spokeswoman with Ottawa Fire Services, said in a statement that they received a call at 2:39 p.m. about trailers on fire at 4020 Leitrim Rd. between Hawthorne and Ramsayville roads.
When fighters arrived, they were told that embers from trees burning in the parking lot drifted to a construction trailer, causing it to ignite before it spread to other trailers and vehicles nearby.
No one was injured, but the buildings on the property were evacuated as a precaution, Cardinal said in a statement.
The fire was under control by 3:37 p.m.
Cardinal reminded residents that Ottawa Fire Services issued a city-wide open air burn ban because of dry conditions in the city.
