Massive sinkhole shuts down Rideau Street
Rideau Centre evacuated, police ask residents to avoid area

A massive sinkhole has formed near the corner of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive in downtown Ottawa, causing a gas leak and forcing the evacuation of Rideau Centre.

Power is out in the area. Ottawa police are advising residents to avoid the area.

The hole, which stretches across Rideau Street, is just east of the intersection, in front of Rideau Centre. A video from the scene shows water rushing from a ruptured pipe inside the hole.
